What is Therapy?

Counseling, talk-therapy or "psychotherapy" allows a person to gain insight into the kind of satisfying relationships you can actually have in yourr life. In addition, one discovers what they are doingor not doing—that prevents them from having these ideal relationships. Often times people need assistance in changing their behaviors, because their actions are having negative consequences (e.g., at school, work, within relationships, etc.). Internal or thinking processes can be substantial barriers to cross. This could be thoughts about past events that trouble you or worries about the future. The therapy I provide includes a safe and private place to explore what is distressing you with the assurance that you will be heard in a caring manner.  

I have unique and extensive insight into the dynamics of Bipolar Disorder. This includes identifying early warning signs to prevent episodes and treatment strategies that involve the whole family. I have clinical knowledge of depression, anxiety and substance use. My practice also includes trauma treatment using Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to unlock distressing memories you get stuck on. Mindfulness to the present moment and non-judgment are the foundation of my therapeutic work.
